I obviously couldn’t possess them when they were in the forest for the mission and after it I remember giratina talking about them but I forgot what exactly and now I don’t know how to possess them so do I have to do the ghastly route to posses them?

They're unique, for now!! Something funky is going on inside their minds, which is why you can't do either mechanic on 'em.
