I had a similar issue and figured out that the game seems to hang for longer amounts of time if you have more than 60-70 savesgames or so. I just created a new folder in Dungeon-KeepHer_Alpha_0.19.1\Dungeon Keep Her_Data\Saves for old saves and threw them in there, solved it for me. This was with and without the mods - I think it's a game engine issue maybe?
