this is my first writing, too. I guess you just have to try and then learn as you go. that's all i'm doing. I got a good community, good early (but critical) feedback, and I'm working with some friends that mean the world to me.
we've talked about UE4 but using renpy was much easier in the beginning for me since i had no coding experience. Full 3d just sounded really intimidating but i won't say that we've ruled it out for the future either
