just to add in case anyone else is checking: libreoffice has a built-in booklet function if you print a file by opening it in the Draw App, and then going to print and hitting brochure. The program is slow but it's not adobe and completely free! Will take a long time to open big files with lots of images, but small zines work great (even 40-80 pages run in less than 30 seconds).
