I hadn't seen the combat system you were trying to reference, but I think I got the hang of it eventually - it seemed like it was supposed to work like Rock Paper Scissors?
But it was still a fun experience, and I like that you got to retry the Marine fight with some upgrades if you lose
Though I would say it would have been better to reset her health too, so you can actually feel the difference. I lost with probably 2 more hits left, upgraded my health and damage, then just nuked her on turn 1 cause she he no HP left anyways. Not a huge deal, but still.
Also I'm not sure if the display was bugged, but I don't think I was taking any damage, and therefore had no reason to use the heal skill, I just spammed attack until I saw a guard/attack and reacted accordingly, and that was enough to get through, for the most part.
The art was well draw drawn, and the character references (including those who might be upcoming) was nice, though I will say a random school background and library transitioning to the church was certainly interesting, but I suppose that comes from the jam restrictions, not everything has to make complete sense.
Regardless, this was a cool take on the theme with a neat approach to combat, all in all good work, and I hope you can come back to it after the judging period!
