Have you tried setting the v-sync off or on?

I have and it still has no effect. Interestingly the text bubbles during the scenes pop up but they're set upon a black screen until the scenes are over.

If nothing works you can always play it's Android version through Bluestacks: https://www.bluestacks.com/

It mostly has to do with them being actual videos...

There are less solutions for a mac build than a PC build unfortunately.
