I came here because i was searching if anybody had similiar idea for the same art style. I went same road when i tried to make everything high fidelity and it just took too long. Then i decided to make it retro, literaly 128x128px textures but without ps1-like shaders or lowering resolution (i find this too grainy and hard to read). So, i love your style and i think this was great choice because it look much more unique and i think even more scary than the original one.
