Here's a random thought. Adding the option for her to drop out of college might be a simple way to add an easy mode that makes thematic sense. No college means she can go to the beach every day and be less stressed (and maybe make some extra cash), and she doesn't have to worry about studying either. It wouldn't seem unrealistic to me that the character might decide to postpone her studies temporarily while she gets the money situation straightened out.
