I don't really have anything useful to contribute to this beyond what folks have already responded with, but just wanted to say this is excellent!
I always love when the conversation around ttrpgs highlights the emphasis of binary views and reminds folks of the beautiful gradient of things happening within the hobby (and the value of discussing those in a nuanced way instead of treating mechanics as what always happens at the table, or things in systems as binary options).
