Hi Chris, I bought ZED Text Editor in order to write prose on the Spectrum Next (without any distractions). I'm not sure I'll be able to do that since there doesn't seem to be automatic word wrapping when reaching the right edge of the screen.

Is automatic word wrapping something you have considered adding to the editor in the future?

Also, here's another suggestion: how about a subtle click sound when a key press is registered?

Reason: my Next keyboard have this quirk where even though I got tactile feedback when pressing down a key on the keyboard, the Spectrum Next didn't register it. This means I have to check the screen every time I type a character. A click sound from the editor would be very helpful in these cases.

Thanks!

Hi Darius,

Thank you so much for purchasing the editor.

I will tackle the easy one first, you can set the click sound in the settings file. When you first ran the editor (latest version) it created a zed.cfg file in the 'c:/sys' folder. Open the file in the editor and you will see two setting related to the sound when pressing a key.

Open the settings:

.zed /sys/zed.cfg

Edit the following entries in the file

key_beep_cycles=3
key_beep_period=60

Press "EXTEND MODE + 2" and the settings will save and reload, press a key and you should start hearing a click. You can play with the values, until you find something that works. Basically, the cycles control the duration, and the period controls the frequency/pitch.

I will take a look at doing word wrap, it is something that I wondered if anyone would care about. I will take a look at adding the capability.

Happy New Year!

Thank you for the instructions how to enable click sound.
(I also found you can change key repeat delay/rate, which is neat.)

I hope it's not too much work to add word wrapping to ZED. I do believe it would be a valuable addition to a versatile text editor!
