As you say, it’s a good game. If you like this kind of game, it’s one of the best there are. It’s free - and cheap if you want to pay for it- and if you don’t like it, that’s it. However, if you like it and own it and enjoy it, it provides counless hours of challenging gameplay (unlike many others), allowing you to go straight for the endgame or meandering within a planet conquering every possible hex. you get to choose your own sidequests… and it’s not an RPG, it’s a engine building game with incrementing difficulty. It’s awesome and if you like it, you come back to compliment the dev, you come back to pay for it (only if you feel like you can and like to). And getting good is pleasant and challenging. What else can you ask for a game? :-)
