You see, your honor, it is because the tree had symbols of both sexes that a male and a female were necessary to open it. According to the previously established lore however, the symbol for the male sex should not have been present as no males exist in the Witches' Realm.
It is therefore my claim that this symbol appearing is a direct cause of Mr. Hughs and his partner coming from the Human Realm into the Witches' Realm.
I back this up with the introduction of Swear Words, used primarily by Ms. Agnes of the Witch Shop, shortly after the two humans had arrived, meaning that in the very least, the language of the Human Realm is spreading over to the Witches' Realm, still if most likely not intentionally.
You can therefore argue that the only reason why Ms. Williams was not able to enter the Trial Chambers by herself is a direct result of Mr. Hughs and Ms. Jade being sent to the Witches' Realm.
I rest my case.
