Hey! Friend of your musician and game jam enthusiast here. Wanted to leave some feedback!
My favorite parts were the dialogue and worldbuilding you all set up for a simple single-button game. Flappy Bird didn't need a story, but your bits of dialogue and humor, however goofy, were a welcome edition and helped carry me through to see the ending. I also liked the music, but I'm a little biased in that regard! Chill beats to zoom through space to.
On the gameplay side, I thought the game felt the best after a few upgrades, but not all of them. The tracer line missiles from the top of the screen presented the most interesting challenge, but ended feeling pretty meaningless after two points in momentum. I was going too fast and I had a much better chance at evading them if I didn't try to slow down. The green and blue asteroids ended up feeling the same because I could hold down the spacebar through both of them. The red was the most interesting, but ultimately boiled down to just "lift the spacebar" for a moment. I could see more potential in the idea if you enjoyed the premise and wanted to put more into it. I'd play more with the patterns and frequency of the obstacles. And maybe inverting the controls so that you're always boosting and pressing a button slows you down. Same gameplay, but might feel more actively engaging.
I'm not a listener of the podcast, but I did read the jam page and knew to look out for the face in the game. It gave me a little chuckle. The distortion animation on the robot's face/screen was great.
Good job, team! Keep making games!
