Looks like there was some minor visual bugs here. Spoilers on the bug below (lategame)
When I talked to the princess (I think) and gave her the required item, the telescope, after leaving the dialogue, she reverted back to the state where I hadn't given her the item. I am assuming that this is the same for the witch(?) and the robot/gaming device.
