You should be proud of this. It is a solid strategy game with a surprising amount of depth. I also spent a little too long before realizing I could pan, but once I figured it out, everything clicked. A small pop-up hint could help guide players in the right direction. You can also use a separate collision tile map underneath to manage the terrain collision problems.
