I'm not very familiar with PAC-12, so I'm not really the target audience here, but I am curious about your design process here. What was the motivation for deploying on a server instead of making a standalone game?

Yeah, originally I joined the jam as kind of a personal challenge to figure out how to use AWS for hosting, but I ran into some security issues and ended up just deploying on Render since I was more familiar with it. As for the server setup, I wanted to experiment with backend deployment instead of just making a standalone game mostly to get practice working with web hosting and timed interaction features. The PAC-12 theme came from our school’s situation since we recently lost teams and funding, and now schools like U of I are joining to fill the gaps, so I thought it’d be a fun and timely concept to build around. Honestly, it’s kind of a big deal for us since losing the old PAC-12 setup hit our athletics and student programs hard causing a lot of budgets to be cut, so this theme really connects to what’s happening on campus right now. I figured most people at WSU would get the reference right away since it’s been talked about so much so I’m surprised you didn’t recognize it.
Gotcha. That's makes more sense. I hope you got the learning experience you were aiming for!
Yeah, I know loosely what PAC-12 is and that WSU has some history with it. I just don't follow football, so I'm missing the team-specific information I would need to actually play your game, and don't feel that I could adequately critique it.
