as of the most recent update (2.1), you ARE allowed to use the sonar during 10, not during phase 2 (novice+) though

btw you can hold 9 to skip straight to 9 at the cost of your rank
in the "map" which is what i like to call the level select thingy in either episode if you hold down 9 you can skip straight to 9 aka level 9 where you fight final boss 9 where hit song final boss 9 plays
all previous levels get set to a unreasonable amount of time though so you cant get a better rank by doing it
