To get the new updates do I have to buy the game again on subscribestar or is there another link I'm missing somewhere.
subscribestar is similar to patreon, u don't buy the game specifically, u subscribe to support the development and u get progress reports and the latest build as a bonus (whenever available). it's a subscription service, so u only get a link if u're subscribed, yes
people used to be able to buy the game outright on itch.io, but itch.io took the option away at some point
