How Backmare Was Born — Behind the Scenes of My Horror Game

I wanted to share a bit about the creation process of my game Backmare.

It was inspired by some of the nightmares I used to have and ended up becoming a project that really left a mark on me.
Working on the atmosphere, sound, and arts was a huge challenge, but every second was worth it.

If you enjoy psychological horror games, it’s available for free here:  https://joao-acelino-official.itch.io/backmare

I’d also love to hear feedback from anyone who has played it — especially about the atmosphere 👀

Hi everyone!

I wanted to share a closer look at one of Backmare’s most iconic and terrifying characters — the clown.

This character has been part of the game since the beginning, but I’ve always liked how much it represents the horror tone I’m aiming for. The lighting and atmosphere around it really help build that unsettling feeling I want players to experience.

I’m still exploring ways to make encounters with this character even more intense in future updates.

What kind of details or sounds do you think would make moments with the clown even scarier?

Thanks for following the project and for all the support so far!

🟡 The Mystery Behind Chico Yellow – What Is He Hiding?

Hi everyone!

Today, I want to share a bit about one of Backmare’s most mysterious figures — Chico Yellow.
He’s not just another character… there’s something about him that doesn’t quite fit in the world around him. His presence changes the atmosphere — the tension rises, and players start wondering what he truly knows about the past events of Backmare.

🖼️

When I first designed Chico Yellow, I wanted him to feel both familiar and unsettling — someone who seems harmless, yet leaves players feeling uneasy.
I’m still experimenting with how he’ll appear in future updates: should he be more present, or remain a silent observer that players only catch glimpses of?

What do you think would make Chico Yellow even more memorable — more dialogue, deeper backstory, or more hidden appearances throughout the chapters?

Thanks again for following the development of Backmare!
Your feedback really helps me shape the atmosphere and direction of the game.

🐾 Exploring the World of Backmare: Spotlight on Crete Cat!

In Chapter 1 of Backmare, Crete Cat doesn’t appear in action, but he already starts making his presence felt through the portraits scattered across the environment. Each image was carefully designed to reveal a bit of his story and personality, even without animation.

While working on the visual details, I realized how small elements — his expression, posture, and even the lighting in the portraits — can convey emotion and mystery, letting the player feel the atmosphere of the world before actually encountering the character.

📸 Here’s one of the portraits that got me most excited!

I’m curious to see how you interpret these visual clues about Crete Cat. 😼 Each portrait is an invitation to imagine more about him and the universe of Backmare.

💀 Backmare — The Most Difficult Scenes from Each Version ⚔️

Hey everyone! 👋
Today I want to share some of the most challenging scenes I’ve created in Backmare, both from the official version and the beta version.
Each one pushed the limits, but also helped the game evolve a lot! 💪

🔥 Official Version — Scene: DeepEyes Pursuit

This part took a lot of fine-tuning with gameplay and enemy behavior.
It’s one of the scenes I tested the most until everything felt right.

⚡ Beta Version — Scene: Black Persecution

Even though it’s from an early build, this part still stands out as one of the toughest.
A lot has changed since then, but it was a key step toward the final version.

Each of these moments represents a milestone in Backmare’s development.
More updates and behind-the-scenes progress are coming soon! 🚀

Quick update on Backmare:

The Backmare website now allows subscribers of my channel to download the official version of the game for free.
This is part of the project’s development process, and I’m testing how the new access system works for players.

🔧 Access the new website system and try the free installation for subscribers: https://backmaredownload.netlify.app/

I’ve added a screenshot of the current access page, and I’ll keep updating this devlog as the system improves.
