There's an app in the game for "anonymous posting". If you attempt to use it without an internet connection it doesn't work. When you use it, it attempts to connect to 64.29.17.X for a server-assisted AI chat. Very not cool.

At the expense of suspension of (dis)belief, there should be some kind of (in-game) warning for that. "AI-powered dialogue" is very different depending upon whether it stays local or plugged into some mystery database.

I don't understand why it's not cool and what you don't like?

Firstly, I apologize if I came off as rude. It's hard to convey some sentiments easily via text.

The issue with server side AI chat is, frankly, anything you say has the possibility or even certainty of being logged, which is a right nightmare for privacy minded people. ChatGPT, for  instance, has been ordered by courts to preserve all user chat logs. [https :// techstartups(dot)com/2025/06/06/court-orders-openai-to-preserve-all-chatgpt-logs-including-deleted-temporary-chats-and-api-requests/] one of many links; though this is from a few a months ago and I haven't kept up with the case.

It's definitely a cool idea , and it wouldn't really be an issue if you were to somehow incorporate a text generator model into the game itself to run, though that would be a herculean task and bloat the file size, at least the ones I'm familiar with.
Anyway, just some mention that it's connected to a server somewhere would alleviate such concerns / allow people overly concerned to avoid it. Or don't, in hindsight it should have been obvious but oh well.

Was also a little scary to see unknown connections being made while playing the game. First thought was trojan/virus until I realized the obvious "oh, the AI is from some server, duh".

edit: had to break up the link to post, itch has a spam filter for other websites I guess.

Otherwise, it is impossible to make the AI chat work.
