First of all, I really enjoyed a lot of the elements in this game! Great potential! However, there are a few things I found out to be a little bit off that compromised the gameplay a little and my final experience, but nothing game breaking (just one thing that is actually gamebreaking xD):
First, is the fact that the game isn't clear in a lot of things, for example, it seemed like the level select screen would randomly appear? At first, when I was playing I couldn't understand if I lost or if something else was going on. Only understood it was actually me beating the level when I read some coments here. It was too abrupt and there was almost no feedback indicating what that meant.
Another thing was the life meter, it took me e little bit to notice it at first. Don't know if it's because of the color or the positioning but I would maybe highlight it a little bit better.
Also, I wish the game paused when chosing upgrades (I don't think it did since I died once when I was reading through them). You should give time to read the descriptions and for the player to make his choice in my opinion.
The game breaking bug for me was when I dashed so fast that I got stuck inside the wall and had to restart. That also reminded me of the idea to implement a restart button in the pause menu to quickly go back to action if something like this happens.
Now the rest is just... perfection! The game idea and how you integrated the mechanics and the whole narrative with the theme is extremely creative and I loved it! It fits perfectly with the jams theme!
The graphics are also awesome! I love the pixel art and the UI. Animations are great, I appreciate you spent the time to add UI feedback like transitions. However, there's just one little thing I would change. The title's color in the main menu was hurting my eyes a little bit and it was kinda hard to look at it. Maybe tone down the color a tiny bit because it looked like it was too brigh. But that's just a small detail. The rest is just really great!
Overall, I really liked this game. But I feel like it lost a little bit of points due to the lack of clarity in certain things that made the experience sometimes kinda confusing. Nevertheless, I think that the extremely creative concept and theme allied with the amazing pixel art, animations and music greatly overshadowed these problems, ultimately making up for a great experience! This has a lot of potential! Congratulations on your submission!
