My players have asked me to take our ongoing campaign of Raccoon Sky Pirates/Crash Pandas to the next level: roller derby.

To that end, I have purchased Derby Drama with the intention of running a campaign where a group of raccoons, opossums, and pigeons enter a human roller derby league.

My question is this: is it possible to play Derby Drama where all players are on the same team?  Where the opposing team are all NPC rats or coyotes?

Hi Christian! Thanks for buying the game. That's an awesome premise!!

It's possible to play Derby Drama with yourself on one team and everyone else on the other team. I've played one-on-one games and one-on-two games that worked fine, but I've never played a more asymmetrical split than that.

The problem I can foresee is that the rules and complexity are the same no matter your team. In addition, there's a bit of a "guess what your teammates are going to do" mechanic that isn't very fair if you are playing all the teammates.

It might be possible to tweak the rules to rebalance for a DMed game. I've played one-on-one games in which we both play two characters, rolling a die to decide the "NPC"'s strategy each jam. That worked well! So you could try only playing one or two characters strategically and just rolling random strategies for the rest.

I'd love to hear how it goes if you try using Derby Drama and what changes you make. If it doesn't seem like it will work,  you could try Thirsty Sword Lesbians, which I made a roller derby setting for, or Fight with Spirit, a TTRPG inspired by anime sport dramas. I've enjoyed the roller derby games I've played with both!

Thank again!
