I don't see any change in the size of the room when I change. The hotel is the exact same size as the starting gray blob room. The view doesn't zoom out, and I still can't scroll left/right at all.

Oh sorry, the six room type buttons are cosmetic. There's a "Buy room upgrades" button at the top that increases the size of the room. I'll change the label of the button to make it more clear what it does.

I did not even realize that text was clickable, it just looks like a title for the room purchasing below. A button graphic around the text would definitely help.
