You can also try exchanging pheromones when the heart meter is at least not grey, AND when it's very pink! It's hard to see on Mobile because the textbox hides it, but there's a little heart at the bottom right near the textbox (or just under the dark textbox for mobile) which gives you an indication on your standing with each of the LIs. When they really like you, the heart meter will be very pink and become larger in size!
Lastly, it is a game! So don't feel bad about rolling back by pressing the Back button and choosing again, if the heart meter went down at what you said! It's not cheating, it's using the game engine (renpy) for optimal results. Hehehe
