Could you elaborate a bit on “Also, it’s always better to download the game and play it on your device instead of through the itch app.”? Is the advice limited to Windows, or…? I’m asking because I don’t recall ever having issues with the launcher on Linux (except for one small game the developer of which didn’t label as supporting any platforms or something like that, so the launcher couldn’t find any installers/installation methods for it or something like that) and this statement piqued my curiosity.

No issue in particular, just that the game is made to be run as a standalone ren'py client. Any extra step can present new problems that weren't taken into account.

If you haven't had any issues, then don't worry about it. ;)

Not quite sure what you mean by “standalone” in this context (not meant to be launched by a launcher of any kind, or…?), but all right 👍🏼
