This idea sounds really nice. I have been working on my own 2d top down engine, so I understand them very well. I've been programming since 2001, and would love to work on a project like this. I am also experienced with low level programming, and memory management in general. I have a lot of the skills needed for this type of game, like building skill in different areas, skill modifiers, and the math behind them. I don't have a lot of experience with Unity itself, but as I said, plenty of experience. Inventory and save load will be no problem at all. I have experience with creating UIs, but not as much. It was in the past couple years that I really started doing full UI design, but I am sure I could create one that would work great for this type of game.
