Oh, that would be it then. I thought the loading was preventing the upgrades from showing.

The update fixed it. It had only crashed after loading a saved game.
I was incorrect. The error popped up trying a minigame again. The same Type Error as the other comment
It looks like it always appears after you've closed the game or loaded a save. I will look into it more.
