Hey mate! Yeah, we were in the same SNF in February this year. You are absolutely right about the whole mouse/keyboard/gamepad thing! I will probably fully remove the mouse interactions and just make everything done by keyboard and gamepad. Unity is a bit annoying in how it manages focus.
