Just to clarify, the rules for the two stats being 1. They must each be between 2 and 5, and 2. They must add together to equal 9, means that one of them has to be a 4 and one of them has to be a 5, correct?

Yeah, I actually house-ruled it in my play-through. I simply chose 3 and 6, because the extremes seemed a bit more interesting.
Worked in my session cause I mainly used the lower stat anyway.
But yeah, the total of 8 would result in one more option.(3+5, 5+3, 4+4).
