I love how much Magnolia is humanized by raising Mint. The bad guy who still loves their family is a bit cliche, but I feel like this is more than that. She hides her work from him because she genuinely wants to raise him well, even to the point of letting him go with Dove. She does have a moral compass, but Mint is the one person for whom it matters more than her obsession for her work.
