It's not just those groups, new censorship is going into effect in the UK, Italy, Canada, the US and other regions. The censorship is designed to automatically block all adult related content (this does not mean NSFW topics only, but can be almost anything), VPNs, and many many other things. All videogames in particular are one of their targets for ban, though they dress the censorship up as child protection, it has nothing to do with kids but instead is essentially part of the old 'book burning' practices of the past and for the same reasons. This...the groups involved have publically admitted to. Over 27,000 games have already been deleted from Steam. Itch.io is currently deciding. However, if Itch.io follows, then ALL ADULT GRADE games will be banned from this platform, not just NSFW. This originally happened with Patreon back during the Global Crackdown between 2010 - 2020. This, now? It is only a continuation of that. Dress it up however you want. During the crackdown, China even imprisoned and executed many game developers. Others fled to Japan. Germany hunted any game developers who focused on LGBTQ content, and many also had to flee that country. Today? If you buy banned games or even just look them up, you can and likely will have some enforcement officers of your country knocking on your door. One guy looked into this on YouTube and was actually arrested while doing a live broadcast discussing his findings. I should note, that Itch.io has already caved into the demands once previously, changing their anonymous purchases policy to require id verification and so many indie developers left. That was, what? A year or so ago? Now, this policy may change yet again.
