got a feeling that the reason it's paid-only now is cuz of the whole "itch being forced at gunpoint to cut off nsfw games" thing, but it would be nice having some confirmation from the dev.

'specially since I downloaded the 0.8p patch the other day (when it was free), finally checked my downloads just now and saw that it didn't download properly, and came back to redownload it (hoping that the patch magically fixed the "game takes half an hour to load" problem my computer has with it), and found out it ain't free no more

anyway, speaking of said itch problems, there are online petitions and phone call campaigns and things to try and convince mastercard and visa (whose fault it is) to get off itch's ass. the ACLU has one of those petitions, do a web search for "ACLU mastercard" and you'll find it

apparently the whole thing is because a couple hundred fundamentalists bitched to the credit card companies, and the aclu petition already has like 100k signatures, but I suspect the ceo's already wanted to pull something like this and the fundies just gave them an excuse

Internet says Collective Shout is like 20 people max, ha.

Late reply, but it's the other way around. The payment processors don't want people charging for NSFW content, so Itch was actually recommending NSFW games should be set to free w/ no donation option, free only.
I think it's mostly blown over by now though, other than a bunch of games still being delisted temporarily (like this game).

judging by a bunch of porn makers' bluesky posts, it's not close to blowing over

conservatives aren't going to settle for "okay you can make porn you just can't get paid for it." as we're seeing in the US already

Blowing over on Itch.
The govt's gonna fight over this like they've been on and off the last couple decades, but as for now I'm not seeing too many Itch creators getting screwed by the payment processors.

Heck, you can't even blame US politics for this thing in particular, Collective Shout is Australian.
