You played a transgender transformation game, deliberately resisted everything, chose to play as a gay cisgender man, and are surprised that the narrative didn't conform to that? The neutral ending doesn't suggest that a gay man should suppress his identity, it reflects that your version of Ethan never had the opportunity to truly explore their identity or his sexuality. In the beginning of the game, the stats screen shows Ethan's attraction to men and women at an even 50/50, yet it labels him as "attracted to women" That's meant to show that Ethan hasn't really examined or thought about his sexual orientation yet. The main character never confronts these feelings because you played the game in a way it wasn't meant to be played in.
So my Ethan deliberately choosing to go with Luke in the tunnel of love and clearly feeling flustered, being excited when dancing with him and getting as close to him as possible, picturing a man in his mind instead of a woman during the masturbation scene, taking every opportunity to hang out with Luke and turning down the girls, COMING OUT to Sam and Luke about preferring men when they ask him his type, was all that just nothing? That litteraly what I went through (minus the tunnel of love) when I found out I was into guys. And i was told by my own grandma that it just a phase, I’ll find some nice girl in the future. That ending open up that old wound. Sorry if I sounded like a jerk. I really loved the character and Luke reminded me of an old crush I never got over.
