Its not because of the credit card companies or at least i dont think so.
Its some company "collective shout" that for some reason has alot of power over the payment processors. (Like some epstein list type shit). They first did it with steam and only under rape and incest tag but now they're doing it to all NSFW over steam and itch.
They have also tried to do the same thing with GTA5, The last of us and such...
Now this isn't just bad for gooners. It's also bad for all types of games. Even if a game (for example detroit become human) has any sort of violence. Even if it's to tell a message about why violence is bad, collective shout will shut that shit down.
Let's say it like this. "I wanna buy a katana like the one from one piece and it would look cool in my room". Sound fine right? Well if the payment processors deem it to be too violent they will pull it off the wall and you're not allowed to spend the money that YOU earned.
