I would say that seriously depends on how much original content is still in the newer version vrs the older one. Newer has newer content, but older may have things that were later removed from the newer one. Just saying. And someone said the versions on itch.io. were all censored as per itch.io policy changes (and Patreon influence). Not sure where to find the verifiable uncensored versions though.
A similar thing happened to TOD (Tails of Desire) back well before 2020, and the result was an unfinished 25G game getting stripped down to 1G in size after content deletion. Now it has virtually no sex scenes left, just a bunch of ugly old women who all look alike when its original game concept was transformation, mpreg, corruption, and animal/monster sex - almost none of which is in it now. The reason was the International global crackdown on taboo content with Patreon support. Even F95Zone did a massive reboot due to this. Itch.io is just the latest to eventually give in to this regulation. The game TOD used to have some of the best animations, cinemas, and interactive battle mechanics ever to be used in any single videogame...ever. It literally won awards for innovative game development - and it was a niche sex game! And wasn't even finished! Knightly Passions caught my attention originally because of the similarities it had with its initial game design and battlesex mechanics with those of TOD, you could see an almost direct influence. But all of that in TOD and Knightly Passions now? All gone, and any info about TOD from before 2020 was scrubbed from the internet. I only know, because I helped Asa and their group BlueBone work on some of it back before 2015 as an alpha tester and watched what happened - haven't worked on a game development since. (I mean, during the crackdown a LOT of devs went to prison, others fled their countries. Part of the reason TOD lost content was they were issued an ultimatum and given a choice. They chose deletion. There were other things that happened, but that sums it up. And many devs for taboo games arrested in places like China were later executed, so...those who could - ran! Japan got a lot of them.) Recently, many of these taboo subjects have been popping back up in games as if they were a new thing. Unfortunately, as has been discovered by many, the global crackdown is still in full effect, as Patreon will let anyone know. Oh, and gay content is extremely high on that list - probably because of member countries like Germany, who has an anti-gay pseudo-taskforce specifically to hunt down anyone of same-sex orientation or anything related to that subject. I've just been waiting for the other shoe to drop with the changes itch.io made. If you ever wondered, the crackdown is the origin for weird things like incest games using the terms "Landlandy" for a mother & "Tenant" for a son, as an example. 😐
