I'm going to be honest. I don't think he's done anything that really warrants an apology. Do I think he should’ve insulted Ross like that? No, I agree with people there. But I also get why he was upset. I can totally see how he might’ve taken Ross’s joke the wrong way, even though I know Ross meant it like that. It just seemed like a simple misunderstanding, and to be fair, he's already apologized for it.
As for the whole “misrepresenting the Stop Killing Games movement” thing, yeah, I do think he got some stuff wrong. But at the same time, Ross’s website and the initiative itself weren’t super clear. That graph Ross showed in the video wasn’t even on the site, which I think is kind of misleading. And honestly, the criticism about SKG potentially killing live service games is still valid. Other experts have said the same thing. It’s a real concern.
Now, just so it’s clear, I 100% support the SKG movement. I think the smaller details will get figured out eventually. And even though I love live service games, if they’ve gotta go for us to have proper game ownership and better experiences, I’m okay with that. It’s a sacrifice I think is worth making.
Do I think Prior Software was too harsh in his video? Yeah. But do I think he deserves all the hate he's getting right now? Not even close. People constantly bombarding him in chat, picking fights, or just disagreeing over and over again it’s exhausting to watch, and I can only imagine how it feels for him. It's clearly taking a toll. And to me, that’s just not fair.
I feel like people forget that disagreeing with someone doesn’t mean you have to harass them. Just because you don’t like what someone said doesn’t mean you have to dogpile them or show up in their stream to poke at them about it nonstop.
As for the stuff about him having a “huge ego” and always bringing up that he worked at Blizzard, I don’t think that’s fair either. I’ve watched his streams for years, and honestly, he barely brings it up. In that montage of him saying blizzard a lot of those clips are super old, like six or seven years ago. And even then, most of the time he only mentions it because someone asks in chat or sends a TTS donation.
And yeah, I get why he’s a bit touchy about the SKG thing. I mean, imagine hundreds of people coming into your chat day after day asking the same question you’ve already answered a hundred times. It would get on anyone’s nerves, and I’m just watching it, not even dealing with it directly. That's not even mentioning all the swatting and the death threats he’s been dealing with. Like, when is enough, enough? When does it cross the line? Does it really have to get to the point where he's forced off the internet or worse?
Look, I’m not saying he’s perfect. He’s blunt, and he can be rude. But honestly? I think he’s a pretty decent guy. I think a lot of time he has some pretty based takes, and I relate to a lot of what he says. He treats his mods really well, runs cool community events, and gives back in a lot of ways. His ferret rescue is amazing. He even made it a business that way he couldn't write off on his taxes and keep it sustainable. You can tell he really cares about it, especially when he talks about it. He lights up. That’s rare to see in a content creator.
And yeah, people say he has a big ego or that he's unlikable, but I just don’t see it. I think he’s genuine, and honestly, kind of charming in his own way. And I respect that he hasn’t thrown out some fake apology up on youtube just to make the drama go away, and If he does end up apologizing, you'll know he actually means it, and I think that says a lot.
And I have to say, I appreciate you being civil and actually giving your opinion, instead of just mocking or making fun. I have a lot of respect for that :) -Aphro
