Not a fan of when character customization options are drip-fed over a long period leaving me with a nebulous idea of what my character looks like. By the end of the demo I still have very little idea.
I apologise if this comes off as rude, but you do know a large part of playing interactive fiction, or just reading in general, is using your imagination?
The game doesn't have to give you a streamlined detail orientated list including everything about you (nose shape, eye shape, etc) as that is up to you to imagine.
I'd suggest just making a mental note, or writing it down somewhere, about the appearance of your character if you struggle with remembering it.
I personally didn't encounter any issue with getting an idea of what my character looked like, but perhaps that was due to me going into the game while already having an idea in mind
It doesn’t come off as rude, you can have your own opinion. For me the main enjoyment of interactive fiction is the interactivity.
I love when I’m provided with character creation and customization options, and these directly affect the story.
Using my imagination to fill in the gaps is not what appeals to me with IFs.
late little reply-
I think you, dear commenter, would absolutely adore The Six That Thrive exclusively for the customization.
