The growth routes don't effect stats. Just how each furry looks like at higher levels (up to 50) and what extra skill they get. From what I've heard that skill will change if you reset the furries down a different growth route. As for faster leveling, there really isn't one. It just depends on location and using items that give extra exp. It can also help to use the codes at the bank.
