Depends. The reach a melee has is equivalent to the distance it travels when poking(more reach=more distance). So the 5 reach light-poke halbert gets you the most distance, but has less speed. With higher speeds you can move more agile, such as those with 2+ speed like fearless or even wooden log. The only stats that go into poosting is speed and reach.
