I don’t use Redstone much, but you should be able to face an observer 3 blocks high above a sugarcane plant, then add a piston right below it so it doesn’t break the entire plant, then you use a water current to take it into a hopper or whatever and grow sugar.
My autofarm is not very optimal, but it works correctly and is fairly cheap. I didn’t need the Redstone blocks placed on level -62, those are just substitute blocks.
