of course your answer helps and it's always good to see when game creator answers on questions, thank you.
It's a reasonable point to keep story linear first to have a finished story/game asap. When story is complete then it would still be possible to add side branches if wanted.
It's just sandbox style games are nice, where choices have effects on player character, npc's or the world. Because that gives good replayability.
