Indie devs usually have to have a regular job, and then make their games in thier spare time.
However, with the abject STUPIDITY demonstrated by the incels that form 92% of the porn genre customers when funding Dr. Crackhead's game 'Being a Dork' a LOT of scammer developers popped up in order to make a quick buck on Patreon.
It's an epidemic of games abandoned simply because they didn't garner $30,000/month in donations to fund the dev's life.
Nobody has an issue with indie dev's making money to fund their game. But they have to understand that donations to Patreon form a contract with their subscribers to you know, actually PRODUCE content.
Unfortunately, even the devs that aren't scammers treat Patreon money like it was found in a wallet on the subway. And that developing the game can wait until Peace in the Middle East is achieved, cancer is cured, and world hunger is solved.
People's anger at the devs more focused on money than art is completely justified. Indie games are SUPPOSED to be about the art, and projects of passion, not printing presses for free cash. The ones that get the highest quality usually make the most money.
We have more than enough money draining grind-a-thons from the douchebags at EA, 2K, Actard, etc.
