Hint: It’s one of the two mentioned in your post. Save before sleeping and enter the forest dream directly.

The Festival, as far as I can remember, can in fact be completed with Malice and enough Flesh Pears and Milkroots. Check yourself by talking to the tree that measures you. You won’t get the exact correct measurements but you will get close enough provided you don’t take one too many. You could also use the measuring tape if you don’t want to talk to the tree but you will need it to be night anyway.
