I think it's planned to replace the AI eventually.

Seconded! An art pack where the game's the same but EVERYTHING is crappy MS Paint drawings, definitely including the player somehow. 

(Also a cat pack, where everyone has a photorealistic cat head, lol.)

From the Steam page: "For the prototype (pictured in the screenshots), I used AI art as placeholder for the Card Art. In the full game, I will replace the AI art!"

So the AI art will be replaced before the game is for sale.
