hi what I always do is change the save name of the old game by adding a extra letter before downloading the new update of any game. This is to stop it from being over written and incase the download gets stopped for any reason like power outage or data limit has been reached. I only deleted the old save after I played the newest download completely. Hope this helps you. ;)
