Yeah. You must pay attention to your amount of money.
Prices do change over time, it applies to both selling milk and selling slaves.
If you want to avoid that problem, you can solve it easily by selling the Cup of Milk manually (Because Slavebar Auto-sell feature only sells it by parts).
Also, if I recall correctly you can check your income and taxes inside the book. Plus after waking up, you will receive a notification about incoming taxes

Did you check if the Portal Temple is still there? (The totem that let's you open the portal)
Try pressing F5 or Left Shift + F5.
Other solution might be to skip the days until the Xmas event appears again.
If anything works, you can try to get Nishy to LvL 20 and making a New Game +. You will start from 0 but keeping your Taming Progress and gaining a boost of EXP.
