A mix of daunting, heart-stopping moments and honeyed intimacy, Closet Case describes a battle between a man’s heart and his memory-laden refusal to give in. Montgomery’s character is an exhilarating, yet mysterious figure that haunts Mallory to the point of paralysis and stasis in his life. He feeds off of Montgomery’s past actions to live, despite those actions being reprehensible and cruel.
But one day Montgomery returns, albeit more gentle and soft to Mallory than before. Mallory then has to face his biggest challenge yet. Will he let his aggressor be a part of his life again (even if he has supposedly changed) or listen to his brain and leave the monster that haunts his memories?
An astonishing and suspenseful story with a groundbreaking dynamic between a man in stasis and his (changed?) aggressor. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys complex dynamics and relationships in fiction.
