By creating a surreal, liminal world experienced through an kind of an old portable console.

I really like that screen look.  Reminds me of Return of the Obra Dinn. I'd love to see where you go with this concept!

Thank you for feedback! I spent a lot of time achieving that kind of visuals.

I saw this was your debut project; nice job! I really loved the creativity you came up with here. I think it has a lot of potential for more puzzles and the like if you continued it.

How'd you go about achieving the visual screen effect?

I'm thinking about continuing developing that prototype into a decent small game, but I’m currently facing some life difficulties , which, I believe, I will overcome soon. Anyways, I'd like also to challenge myself with few more game jams before the  long, full development of any one project.

And yes, about the visual effects. it’s all about working with cameras and shaders. I used one camera to render frame of game console, another one to render a game itself (what player sees), it gives me render texture. I then used this texture in the shader which pixalates it and limits the colors. Finally, I used third camera to render UI.

I hope you're able to overcome those difficulties sooner than you expect! I am in the same boat; I have a lot of ideas I would love to bring to life, but I know it's best to get experience with some game jams before going all in on any one idea, haha.

Thanks for sharing! I need to learn more about using shaders and the like. If you have any suggested videos that are beginner-friendly on using shaders, I'd love to see them.

Sure, here are some videos that helped me:

Thanks so much! I will definitely watch them all today.
