Definitely the most creative intro I've seen in one of these games. Also, I was collecting a bunch of mines and noticed the number going up, but I feel like I was missing something because I couldn't find a way to use them. Is it just a counter? By level 3, I found it was incredibly tedious to find gems, everything was just mines.
