I'm from the U.S. and read this book for the third or so time in the wake of the Trump presidency. There's something I find comforting about the horror in this book because of its underlying familiarity; it hurts me more than any media ever has, but it also feels bizarrely comforting. It made me think some scenes were kind of hot and then spiral for at least a few minutes over why I would think that. Overall, I will probably read it again (and again, and again.)
